The fact that you received a Commendation Medal from the Chief of Naval Staff for outstanding performance and exceptional devotion to duty (awarded to less than 1% of those in the Navy is a very big deal and will immensely help your candidacy at INSEAD. Your GPA from UP State, which I am not familiar with, is a significant drawback to your profile, however. Why? Because INSEAD is a highly selective, elite player and you will find yourself competing against other Indians who went to more selective schools, ie. IIT and IIM schools, with higher GPAs and GMAT scores. There also is no indication of how international your service in the Navy has been. International exposure and experience …

International exposure and experience at INSEAD assumes large importance in admission decisions. Nonetheless, your service record does speak volumes. My guess is that INSEAD won’t be easy for you. Singapore looks to be a better bet.
