Hi Mr. Needy Spartan, Melisa here from Stratus Admissions. What jumps out at me is your strong technical career (with 3 promotions!) and your call outs of mentorship – along with your strong stats. While your teaching and mentoring shows your involvement, unless you helped in leading your company’s Giving Campaign, donations are not generally looked at as extracurricular. What will be important for you is a strong and compelling story. Would love to know more about what inspired you to venture to tech – and come to the US? I would also want to dig in further on your goals and understand how your experiences have influenced those goals. What type of a role do you see yourself in post-MBA? Especially at a school …
Especially at a school like Booth, where the curriculum is so flexible, you have to have (and convince admissions you have) a well thought out career plan. It sounds like you know your long term (starting your own something), so you can work backwards on what is the right position for you post-MBA to gain some skills that will help you – maybe working in a start up to see the differences from a large established tech company? You want to have an ideal role and example company – to show you’ve done the research and know where you want to be. You’ve definitely highlighted some great schools for innovation – and I’m sure you’ll have a lot to add from your tech innovation and e-commerce experience. All of these schools are also going to value collaboration – so make sure you highlight how you work with people to get things done. With a compelling story – I think you are betters than average acceptance rate at Booth of 22%. Best of luck!
Best shot is at UCLA or Haas. Haas might be great if you want to be in tech. Might also want to consider MIT Sloan or CMU Tepper.
