I became an education entrepreneur a few months before graduation in 2011. I ran the startup for 8+ years. Post shutting my startup in March 2019, I joined a development sector organization focused on enabling entrepreneurship across India in senior mgmt. I will have 10 years of work experience by the time I land up in the US if I get an admit.

As the founder of my education startup, I led the startup to a scale of over 140,000 enrolments in 8 years. In 2018-19, we had 46,000 enrolments in our programs. Raised USD275k+ from US & Indian VC. In my current work, I lead efforts on building an entrepreneurial ecosystem in two diverse states in India working closely with govt and other stakeholders.
My long term goal is to go be an entrepreneur again but in the short run, I believe roles in and around startups (leadership roles in mature startups, impact/early-stage VC, etc.) would be most ideal.

Hi Mr. Social Entrepreneur, Kristen from MBA Prep School here. It sounds like you have a passion for social good, evidenced by your work in education and development. I’m also impressed by your start-up momentum right out of undergrad. While I’m not sure what the breakdown was for your GRE, your overall score is right on target. A few concerns do jump out to me about your profile: your GPA is far below the average for the programs you are considering and your work experience exceeds the average. You’ll need to emphasize other strengths to overcome the GPA (perhaps there was an extenuating circumstance you can explain in an optional essay) and clarify why you need an MBA now to accomplish your goals. You’ll need to emphasize other strengths to overcome the GPA (perhaps there was an extenuating circumstance you can explain in an optional essay) and clarify why you need an MBA now to accomplish your goals. Your career goal is also rather unclear; you’ll need to clarify what type of entrepreneurial organization you want create or be a part of. My guess would be it relates to social interest, but you don’t want to let the Admissions Committee assume anything. You will need to put together a strong narrative with a focus on improving the world for Stanford. Because this year looks to be very competitive, I would encourage you to expand your school list beyond the M7 and look for schools with solid reputations in entrepreneurship and nonprofit management, as well as schools whose applicants have a higher average amount of work experience. Yale SOM and Cornell’s 1 year Accelerated MBA might be ones to consider. You might even look at more executive level programs like MIT Sloan Fellows. Let us know if we can help you find the right fit and develop your story!
