I am a gay, first-generation college student, an immigrant, and now U.S. citizen. I went to a state school because I had to pay for college on my own. I am working full-time in Y1 and Y2, ending Y2 with a 1.9 GPA. However, in Y3 and Y4, I started to turn it around, ending those semesters with 3.8+ GPAs, although I am still working part-time. I am hoping to leverage my MBA to round out my engineering degree and fully shift from program management to product management/marketing and begin to build a network essential for an aspiring VC.

Wow, Mr. Techie Changemaker, I do like your story. You show a ton of resilience, determination, leadership and teamwork, and these skills really dovetail with MIT’s strength in innovation and hands-on labs. I also love how you bring diversity to the class, a clear priority for MIT. Your transcript is definitely going to get some scrutiny, but there’s a tiny space in the application where you can add context about your situation at the time. Sloan is a super hot school right now, but I’m rooting for your success and giving you 4x the MIT Sloan admit rate because I hope they will see the same things I do (especially in the video, which will leverage your YouTube acumen). Good luck! …
