Meet UCLA Anderson’s MBA Class of 2019

Molly Tarrant

UCLA, Anderson School of Management

Describe yourself in 15 words or less: Trying my hardest to be and do good while eating all the peanut butter

Hometown:  Saratoga Springs, NY

Fun Fact About Yourself: I was a division-one rower in college

Undergraduate School and Major:  Harvard College; Government

Employers and Job Titles Since Graduation: Arabella Advisors, Associate Director; Associate;  Assistant

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far: In my previous role, I was on a small team helping a family foundation to revise its strategic vision and governance structure. The highlight of this process was a two-day retreat and board meeting which we planned and facilitated. It was rewarding to have executed a successful event—the family made a lot of headway during the meetings—and even more so to have had a hand in helping the family shape its philanthropic legacy.

Looking back on your experience, what one piece of advice would you give to future business school applicants?  Don’t make the tremendously important decision to go back to school before you are ready. You (generally) only get one shot at graduate school, and you want to make sure you are completely prepared and ready to make the leap before you start the admissions journey and actual business school experience. Take the time to make sure it’s the right opportunity for you. And, if you find you become ready four months before the round two deadline, don’t worry—you can do it (I did!)!

What was the key factor that led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA and why was it so important to you?  It was important to me to attend a school committed to fostering a social impact mind-set (and career paths); UCLA recently launched its Impact@Anderson program and has ambitious plans for launching a fully-endowed, leading-edge social impact center at the school. I am so excited to have the opportunity to support and help shape the program’s work over the next two years.

What would success look like to you after your first year of business school?  By June, I want to have built out my business-skills toolkit; earned a leadership position in Anderson’s Women in Business Connection club and/or Net Impact chapter; met every single one of my amazing classmates; and be headed off to a great internship!
