Teaching through Teach For America changed my life and my career trajectory. The experience opened my eyes to my privilege and the inequities that exist in different communities. After teaching for two years I joined a nonprofit start up as a founding director in a new region. Since then I have consistently grown the team, revenue, and impact.

Hi Mr. Nonprofit Director & Startup Founder, Impressive helping to growing revenue 6x at your company! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission. I think there are a lot of strengths in your profile – differentiated career background pivoting from TFA to a nonprofit startup, and leadership at your church. Your soft GPA could be a concern to AdCom, but I think your strong GMAT should offset that. Still, if there were any circumstances that affected your GPA, do consider sharing your side of the story in the Optional Essay. As you put your apps together, be sure to weave in the stories from TFA that opened your eyes to inequities and shaped your decision to join a nonprofit startup. As well, why MBA? As you’re already part of a successful startup, what specific skills or knowledge are you seeking at HBS that you cannot learn on the job? If you can articulate this compellingly in your essays, that would be the key to your application success. If you would like to discuss your profile in more detail, feel free to schedule a 1:1 consultation with us. Wishing you the best in your MBA journey!
