Hi Mr. SWF, I love your international experiences! This is Debbie Choy from mbaMission and GSB alum. It’s impressive that you won numerous scholarships to study in different countries. I hope you enjoyed your high school experience in Singapore – I grew up in Singapore myself. As you put together your deferred MBA apps, be sure to describe how your personal experiences in so many countries have shaped and influenced your perspective. I think another strength you have is your academic track record – GPA and GMAT. As well, your student leadership roles are outstanding. I’ll assess your chances at Harvard, though it isn’t your target school.
Great GPA and GMAT, from a high-ranking university. Overrepresented but international experience will make you stand out. Not a STEM major, but MIT doesn’t care for that (since it is your target school).
Post-MBA goal is realistic, ambitious maybe (depends on how you talk about it) and I see you are already an IB analyst at a BB in Hong Kong, so it shows you are working towards that goal regardless of your acceptance. Green flag.
Since an expert has already said your extracurriculars are good, I’ll go the extra mile to criticize them in case you still have time or would like to work on them a bit more. I definitely do see a habit of leadership by being a chairperson for a forum and a Tedx (+ funding your education for 8 years & founding an investment fund). You are a mentor at the investment fund you founded… I’m not sure what that means but regardless I’d say it falls more on analytical appetite than community service. You’re a quant, I want to see a bit more of the poet in you. Something so simple could add a lot to you being well-rounded.
Econ & Political Science majors have made it to MIT deferred programs from NYUAD before, so I say you have a high chance of acceptance (given you don’t mess up the interview or essay).
On another note, I’d love to know your pre-MBA goals. Given it is for deferred programs, what you say there is pretty fundamental to your acceptance/rejection. Good luck!
