Recalling your own experience, what advice do you have for applicants who are preparing for either the GMAT or the GRE?  I had been out of school for a while. I started early to get back into studying mode. My brain had not been used this way for a long time as I adjusted to the routine of working life. I set a date for my first test so that I had a deadline to work against. And though I didn’t need it in the end, I left enough time for a second test in the case I was not satisfied with my initial results.

Based on your own selection process, what advice do you have for applicants who are trying to draw up a list of target schools to which to apply? I targeted schools based on location, rankings, and specialization in certain industries that I was interested in. I attended many information sessions and master classes to get familiar with my target schools. I think its key to speak with student ambassadors who can give you a realistic idea of life is like at their school, something that you can’t read online.

What advice do you have for applicants in actually applying to a school, writing essays, doing admission interviews, and getting recommenders to write letters on your behalf? I believe schools desire diversity, so be interesting and unique when writing essays and during your interview. Most of all, be personable and show that you can communicate well. Since I was not in a situation to get a letter of recommendation from my manager, I asked a previous manager that I was still in touch with, as well as a customer with whom I had built good relations.

What led you to choose this program for your full-time MBA? The bottom line is that Asia is where it’s at. Culturally, economically, you name it. The spark of life is here and growing, and to be a part of this transformational phenomenon is something that may only come once in a generation. What would you ultimately like to achieve before you graduate? My ultimate goal is transformation—not only professionally but personally as well. In the crucible of an intensive MBA program you are faced with a tumultuous experience of insane workloads and never ending close-quarters combat with all of your classmates. My aim—and no doubt my school’s as well—is to emerge with a confidence backed by a comprehensive arsenal of skills and friends who are ready to help China take on the world.
