You already met Vraj in a previous episode. Sandy assessed his odds for Harvard Business School’s 2+2 deferred admissions program less than a month ago under the headline Can This Indian Male With A 3.4/710 Leapfrog His Cohort?
Well, Vraj took the first step toward that leapfrog move by gaining an interview with Harvard admissions this coming Monday. So naturally he came back to help prep for that important session for this mock interview with Sandy.
First the facts: While his raw scores are low (a 710 GMAT and a 3.4 undergraduate GPA), he’s a stellar 2+2 candidate. Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, India, he emigrated to the U.S. with his parents at a young age. He has not one but two Ivy League degrees. Besides his undergraduate degree in computer science and economics from the University of Pennsylvania, he also has a master’s in systems engineering from Penn with a 4.0.
He has done internships with Google, Facebook and an Wharton MBA startup. His Facebook internship led to a job offer with the social media player. And his own startup, Magic Connects, a software platform that matches students with each other attracts 1,500 weekly students visits from 65 universities and 44 countries. Vraj founded the platform during the pandemic to help students, isolated from each other as learning shifted to remote instruction, discover friends and community. He won an outstanding research award for a two-year cancer research project he did for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
All those accomplishments got him on the interview schedule for Harvard Business School. Now the only question is whether he can present himself well enough to get that admit.
In this episode of Fridays With Sandy, HBSGuru.com founder Sandy Kreisberg puts him through the paces of a mock HBS interview. It’s chock full of lessons for anyone about to walk into an admissions interview with any highly selective business school.
