At least in one sense, Anna is an unusual MBA candidate. She spent five months in a surgical residency until deciding that medicine wasn’t what she really wanted. Instead, she joined her family’s business, a specialty importer and distributor of foods in the Philippines where she has worked in business development and strategy.
With a 740 GMAT and an impressive GPA that allowed her to graduate in the top 5% of her class at the University of the Philippines, Anna wants an MBA for the basic business skills it would provide and to allow her to work at a food or healthcare startup in the U.S. before returning to her home country where she hopes to pursue her own startup.
Her target MBA programs? Wharton, MIT Sloan, Berkeley Haas, INSEAD and CEIBS in Shanghai, China.
In this episode of Friday’s With Sandy, HBSGuru.com founder Sandy Kreisberg guides her through a clear explanation of why she left her residency for the family business, among other things.
