2022-2023 MBA Admissions Events By School

Back to normal.

Back to reality.

Back to the grind.

The 2022-2023 recruiting carousel is kicking into gear. After two years of COVID driving recruiting online, you’ll find adcoms and alumni heading out in force – be it socials and panels, fairs and forums, or just coffees and lunches.

Exhibit A: The MBA Tour is rolling out again. Next week, you’ll find dozens of schools in Boston, Atlanta, and DC – including Columbia Business School, London Business School, MIT Sloan, and Berkeley Haas. Here, candidates can meet in small groups with school representatives – or receive personalized advice on positioning their resume or studying for the GMAT. Of course, there is always time to network with adcoms and prospective students alike over food and drinks.

PLAYING TO THEIR STRENGTHS

This year, business schools will host an array of events, in-person and online, whose messaging targets various populations and concerns. How can candidates keep track of which business schools are doing what and when? To make that easy, P&Q supplies a table (below) with a link to each program’s events page. That way, potential applicants can learn what’s happening online, on campus, and on the road all year long.

Sure enough, each school’s slate reflects their values and priorities. Take the University of Virginia’s Darden School. Renowned for teaching excellence, Darden holds “Office Hours” so professors can expose candidates to their teaching philosophies and ongoing research. In addition, the school schedules “Women@Darden” Office Hours, whose guests in the coming month include Yael Grushka-Cockayne, senior associate dean, and Professor Carolyn Miles, former CEO of Save the Children, who teaches the school’s CEO Leadership course.

Yale SOM, which prides itself on its deeply global approach, takes a different tact. It will be holding a series of application workshops specific to international regions, including Africa, China, and India. At the same time, the school’s assistant dean and direct of admissions, Bruce DelMonico, holds court with MBA applicants with his own version of “Office Hours.” And the school provides the same platform with its career services team. In addition, Yale SOM is busy prepping for a series of events, including Women’s Leadership Weekend, PRIDE Weekend, and the Veteran’s Symposium.

ACCESS TO EVERYTHING IN ONE SPOT

Some programs lead with their programming. The University of Michigan’s Ross School boasts an enviable portfolio of experiential programming. Hence, Ross will be holding sessions on its student-led investment funds, sustainability institute, and entrepreneurship and venture capital resources and support. With Michigan’s football team winning again, Ross is even hosting tailgates for MBA candidates too.

Indeed, you’ll find overlapping events across the schools: campus tours, Q&A sessions, current student and alumni chats, and (of course) receptions. However, several programs deviate from these norms too. Harvard Business School, for example, will be holding an Industry Spotlight” to showcase their offerings in areas like Healthcare, Entrepreneurship, and Social Impact. At Stanford GSB, you’ll find sessions devoted to student partners. Northwestern Kellogg takes candidates inside various clubs, with the Asian Management and Veterans clubs next on the docket. Let’s not forget Dartmouth Tuck, whose MBAs take candidates through their summers with their “Internship Journeys.” If you didn’t make the cut last year at Tuck, their admissions team hasn’t forgotten about you. They are hosting a session specifically for reapplicants later in July.
