Publishing what amounts to a net promoter score, something every MBA will ultimately learn in marketing, also allows the spotlight to shine on excellent consultants who prefer to give more hands-on attention to fewer candidates or who make admissions advising more of a part-time endeavor. Landing a perfect 10.0 score with clients has become tougher than ever. After all, it is estimated that as much as 80% of the applicant pools to highly selective business schools are filled with applicants who are qualified to attend and do well in a highly ranked MBA program. Yet, only a small fraction of those candidates will gain admission, making many admission decisions somewhat random and unpredictable. This year, only four consultants were able to achieve that 10.0 mark over ten or more clients. A year earlier, ten consultants could boast of that feat. Lindsay Sage, founder of the firm that bears her name in New York City, racked up 13 clients who gave her the magic ten. Last year, Fortuna’s Emma Bond, who is among the top 15 admission consultants this year, managed a perfect score over 25 clients. SAGE LIMITS HER CONSULTING TO NO MORE THAN 10 CLIENTS PER FOUND Lindsay Sage, founder of Sage Admit, tops the list of consultants earning a perfect 10.0 score from clients Sage charges clients $425 an hour or $9,000 for a three-school package of what she calls “comprehensive” help, with “the entire application process with unlimited support.” She brings to her work four years at New York University’s Stern School of Business, including nearly a year and one half as an associate director in MBA admissions. After cutting her teeth on the other side as a consultant with AcceptU and Stacy Blackman Consulting, she founded her firm in New York nine years ago. Sage works with no more than ten clients per round. “Lindsay is absolutely incredible and I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her,” writes one candidate who gained admission to Columbia, NYU Stern, UCLA Anderson, and Georgetown Mcdonough. “I had come to Lindsay feeling discouraged about all aspects of the application process (i.e. were the schools I wanted to go to within reach, was the timeline I had set for myself feasible, etc). Within the first 10 minutes of talking with her, she made everything feel possible and within reach. From beginning to end, she made the application process feel seamless and doable. Her confidence and knowledge in the process and her unwavering support and positive attitude blew me away!” Another candidate, accepted to both the MBA programs at Stanford and Harvard, was even more ecstatic. “I am not kidding when I say working with Lindsay was a life-changing decision,” writes the applicant. “Thanks to Lindsay, I was accepted to both GSB and HBS (the only schools I applied to). Lindsay helped me identify and expand on the gold nuggets in my application, and in retrospect, the difference between my pre-Lindsay essay brainstorms/drafts and my post-Lindsay final submissions is insane. Although my early drafts were passable, they were objectively not HBS/GSB quality, so I 100% have Lindsay to thank for my acceptances.” That is the power of a terrific coach.
