School: Stanford University / Acumen

Platform: NovoEd

Registration Link: Lean Data Approaches to Measure Social Impact

Start Date: November 25, 2015 (Self-Paced)

Workload: 7 Hours Long

Instructor: Acumen Impact Team (Instructor not specified)

Credentials: Acumen’s online courses are designed to stimulate moral imagination and enhance financial and operational skills. Overall, Acumen’s mission is to “equip emerging change leaders with the tools to change the way the world tackles poverty and build a world based on dignity.”

Graded: Students will receive a statement of accomplishment signed by Acumen after completing all course requirements.

Description: Designed for social entrepreneurs and social sector organizations looking to measure their impact and reach, this course applies the principles of lean design to help them collect and interpret data. In doing so, these organizations can turn insights into programs that better serve their constituents and report more tangible results back to investors.

In this course, students will “scope [their] own Lean Data Initiative, beginning with mapping the current information flow within [their] enterprise and pinpointing places where data could be collected in the least disruptive way.” Using cases from Acumen’s portfolio,  students will “understand the core components of the lean data approach; assess the data collection technologies most appropriate for [their] social measurement needs; and begin to scope a Lean Data Initiative for your organization that identifies the timeline, personnel, costs, and technology associated with implementation.”
