Credentials: Andreessen teaches courses in strategic philanthropy, grants, and philanthropic entrepreneurship and innovation at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she holds an MBA. At Stanford, she is the founder and chair of Stanford PACS, the school’s research center on philanthropy. She also heads the Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen Foundation (LAAF), whose initiatives include Project U, a series of free educational resources on strategic philanthropy, and the Giving 2.0 Chapter Networker, a national network of campus clubs devoted to strategic giving. Andreessen also spent 10 years heading the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund and authored the New York Times best-seller Giving 2.0: Transform Your Giving and Our World.

Graded: Students will earn a Statement of Accomplishment for completing a Nonprofit Assessment and the Individual Giving Action Plan.

Description: Think one person can’t make a difference? Don’t tell that to Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen. In Giving 2.0, Andreessen will share how students can strategically invest their money, time, expertise, and network for maximum social impact. As part of the course, students will formulate an Individual Giving Action Plan, where they identify how their resources and talents can be applied to helping nonprofits. In addition, students will conduct a detailed assessment on specific nonprofits using a variety of metrics, with selected charities eligible for grant funding. The course will be taught through lecture and guest speaker videos, workbook activities and quizzes (though no final exam will be given). Students can also interact through virtual meeting groups devoted to specific topics.
